Has Your AC Unit Iced Over?

No one wants their air conditioner to break down when the weather is warm and humid. However, if the unit fails to function there are various ways to troubleshoot and fix the problem. I would like to share three main troubleshooting tips with you, in the hopes that the air con unit will start to work again.

1. Take a close look at the compressor to check for any signs of damage. The compressor is a major component in an air conditioning unit; if this part fails the unit will stop working. So, examine the compressor to ensure it is in good working order. It is time to call in a professional HVAC engineer if you notice the ac unit iced over.

2. It can often help to reset the main power source. Resetting the power can correct the problem. How do you reset the power? Go to the meter box, turn the unit off and switch it back on again.

3. Clean the air filters regularly. AC units last longer when the filters are cleaned on a regular basis. Your on-going maintenance program should include cleaning the filters and the air filters should be cleaned once a month. Clean filters produce fresh air and maximize the lifespan of the unit.

I hope you find these simple tips useful and I hope they help you to troubleshoot problems with your ac unit. If the ac system still fails to work you should contact a professional HVAC engineer to rectify the problem.
