In a wall air conditioning system, there are numerous places where cold air from the outside can get into the room during winter. This means that simply sealing the vents will not be enough to prevent heat loss because there are several other openings. For improved insulation, the unit must also be covered from the outside in addition to sealing of the vents.

The air conditioner can be sealed from the outside using a piece of tarp or plastic sheet. To ensure that the exposed portion of the wall AC is completely sealed, be sure to use duct tape or bungee cords to secure the cover around the unit.

If the AC unit in your home is large, you can use several pieces of plastic sheets or tarp to cover the unit properly. You must also ensure that the grills and vents at the bottom and on the sides of the unit are properly sealed.

Sealing the inside of your unit ensures that any air that might slip through the outside cover does not get into the house. Using tarp and bungee cords to cover your AC unit might be effective, but it is also unsightly. For this reason, you may want to consider covering the inside of your AC unit with a plastic sheet and hang a framed piece of art on the wall to cover the unit.

When you want to cover your wall-mounted AC unit for the winter, you can design small covers using a plastic sheet or fabric. All you need to do is buy a piece of fabric that is a little bit larger than the vents and make your through the wall air conditioner cover. You can use fabric adhesive to attach the fabric to the plastic sheet. Use double-sided tape or hot glue to adhere the cover to the vents so that you can remove it easily in the summer.
