The following are simple things that you can do to make sure that your air conditioner will last for a long time and be in the best condition possible.
Change Your Filter
If you run your air conditioner heavily, you will need to make sure you do a window unit air conditioner filter change regularly (At least once a month during the summer). If you are good about this, you will be able to keep your AC running for 15 years or more. Filters accumulate dust, and then they reduce the cool air in circulation. They also circulate the dirt, which is not healthy for you.
Frequent Cleaning of the Air Conditioner
You do not have to clean your AC on a daily basis, of course. If you are unaware of how you can clean your air conditioner, do not worry. It is a fairly easy and simple process. It should be enough if you clean it every 3 to 6 months. If you are attempting to clean out a window air conditioner, you may use water or an air spray can. All you have to do is ensure that the AC is not plugged into the electrical socket when you go to clean it.
Service Your AC Just Once Per Year
Just like you would for your car, you can have your air conditioner serviced once a year. The reasoning behind this is simple- you likely use your air conditioner more than you do your car. Since you use it for more hours most likely, you should have it serviced at least as often as you would your car. You should have the air conditioner maintenance personnel come to have a look at the AC often.
Leave Condenser Off for at Least 5 Minutes
Once you turn your AC on, wait for about 5 minutes before you turn on the condenser. Your compressor will have an overload going to it if you turn both of them on at the same time. Your AC will last longer if you wait and do not overload the compressor.
Give Your AC a Tune-Up in the Spring
Many AC’s work all of the time during the summer. This is why it is so important for you to have your AC checked out during the spring. You would not want your AC to break down in the middle of a hot day. You might not receive help right away, because many repair companies are completely booked during the summer.
If you do all of the above, you should not have to worry about your AC breaking down for a long time.
